Twelve members of our PROBUS Club signed up early enough to make the cut-off for our second tour of the Robert Held Gallery in Parksville on Tuesday March 15.
This gallery and glass-blowing facility is a real gem. Robert Held retired after many years of creating and teaching in the United States and Canada, but then decided he hadn’t quite had enough of living his artistic dream. He opened his Parksville studio three years ago. In that studio he and his artisans create beautiful, shimmering works of art. Robert led us through the difficulties and joys of working in glass, explained the methods used to create globes, plates and solid works, and showed us how the works in progress (a jug, a solid heart and a vase) will come to completion.
Our group enjoyed a very pleasant lunch at the Cedar Room in Ti-Na-Mara prior to our visit to the gallery. The tour was over-subscribed so a THIRD visit is in the works. Also, glass art classes are available at the gallery; details appear elsewhere in this e-News.
