The Colors of Christmas
Northwest Bay Probus Club
December 2nd, 2021
With bated breath, we approached our Christmas party venue, the Bayside Resort Hotel in Parksville. Not only was this a new location, having been accustomed to Fairwinds golf club, it was also during daylight hours, a luncheon.
Greeting members at the door and checking COVID passports were the quintessential hostess, Leslie Macdonald, and Norm Kilarski, efficacious on temperature patrol.
On entering the room, members were assisted by Kim Rasmussen and Al Macdonald, to find their tables and, more importantly, the bar. Food bank donations began accumulating. There was a pleasant hum in the room as members greeted one another, some not having seen each other, literally, for years, while in the background, the lovely Sarah Wood, pianist, played a seasonal repertoire. Members followed the directive of wearing Christmas colors, which showed up in shirts and sweaters, ties and earrings. Tables were decorated in seasonal style with a bag of cookies, baked by organizing team members, at each place setting.
MC, Robert Grose, definitely a master of eloquence and wit, welcomed all, reminding us of protocols, before moving into an entertaining program. Sharon Seibt was called on for a challenging triple trivia, which had all coming up with some interesting answers, and winners rewarded with chocolates at their tables.
On cue, the servers arrived with a first course of a tasty salad, followed by a piping hot entrée of roast turkey with all the fixins’. Absolutely delicious. The piece de resistance was the pumpkin crème brulee for dessert. Have to mention The Colors of Christmas special coffee. It was Yum!
As we watched Heinz Dahn and Bill Harvey loading up the car for the food bank delivery to the Salvation Army in Parksville, we were overwhelmed by your generosity. Thank you all so much.
Thanks again to the organizers Leslie Macdonald, Heinz Dahn, Kim Rasmussen, and Joanie Miller. A special thank you to Don Dempson for your inspiration for the theme and other ideas. Thank you to Robert Grose and Sharon Seibt. Seasonal background music was organized by Phil Howell. Thank you once again, Phil. And Norm, what can I say? A bright light on our tree.
