President’s Message – February 2014

Robert Grose, President2014…an opportunity to build upon our 10th Anniversary success.

A new year means many things. One is to take time out to reflect on the year ahead and what resolutions you might make. While we are usually optimistic about the future we also realize that some time we need to make changes.

As your new President, and a relatively new Probus member, I am aware that over the past ten years many long term members have worked very hard in leadership roles to make our club as successful as it is today. But many have said “I need a bit of a break”. In response, I am pleased to have been able to assemble a management team of relatively new members to assume new leadership roles.

Change is necessary to keep up with the times. We have cancelled our January meeting when many are away and replaced it with an August meeting. Our general meeting date has been changed to the first Friday of each month so as not to conflict with Fairwinds Men’s Day. Our newsletter has been replaced with a modern website that you can refer to for all club information and a monthly e-News. A new interest group, “Out & About”, is being established which I am sure will attract interest, as will our ever popular social activities.

As we enter a new year we have the opportunity to regenerate the energy and vigour of our club by increasing our club membership numbers. All members can help by introducing new people as prospective members to Probus by giving out our new Probus cards and inviting them to the next meeting with you

We have also made it easier for members to participate in the success of the club by sharing tasks and helping out with individual events when asked. You will be so glad you did.

In summary I think the slogan adopted from Probus Canada is very applicable for 2014: Our strength is fellowship – Our success is participation“. I wish everyone a FUN and active 2014 Probus year and look forward to seeing you all again at the April meeting after our winter snow-birding experience.
