Here we are in February already – and it’s time for the Annual General Meeting of our Probus Club on Friday Feb. 7th. Please note that we will be starting this meeting at 9:00 a.m. rather than 9:15 in order to complete our business without robbing time from the guest speaker. Please plan on attending – to ensure there is a quorum present to be able to conduct the meeting.
We will be covering three key items at the AGM:
1) Reviewing proposed changes to our Club’s Constitution and Bylaws, as reported at our January meeting. These documents have not been reviewed for several years and need significant updating. If the changes are acceptable, the new versions can be approved. Copies of the new versions are currently available on our website. Please print them off and bring them with you to the meeting, as we explain the changes.
2) Presentation of a slate of candidates for the Management Committee and the election of Officers. At present, we are still seeking nominations for three positions – Secretary, Chair of the Social Committee and Chair of the Hospitality Committee. Please take a moment to reflect on whether you can assist in any of these positions. Without a full group of committed members to guide the direction and operation of our club over the next 12 months, there is the possibility that some of our activities and programs may be compromised and limited. Hopefully, this does not occur!
3) Review of the 2024 Year-End Financial Statement and presentation of the 2025 Operating Budget, for approval.
The intent is to complete the AGM in about 45 minutes, so that we have sufficient time for the guest speaker’s presentation, which is always one of the key aspects of our monthly meetings.
Once the new Management Committee has been confirmed, we will be scheduling a Planning Meeting to identify the key initiatives that we need to focus on for 2025.
As we move from 2024 into 2025, we are reminded that things change as we get a bit older – and maybe a bit slower. Our speaker in January explained what happens to our hearing abilities as we age. Our February speaker will do something similar regarding changes to our eyesight.
One of our members sent me an appropriate item recently that is related to this topic. It is a play on the well-known Serenity Prayer. I thought you might enjoy it.
The Senility Prayer
“God grant me …
- The senility to forget the people I never liked,
- The good fortune to run into the ones that I do like, and
- The eyesight to tell the difference. Amen

President
