Greg Klimes
Our speaker on September 8 will be Greg Klimes on the topic of Backyard Beekeeping.
Nature is so wonderfully complex. It never ceases to amaze that the critical “inner-workings” of nature are hidden in very small packages, an integral part of our day-to-day lives so easily be taken for granted.
We all know that bees are incredibly diverse and critically important to our ecosystem. But, did you know that honey bees differ considerably from bumblebees? Among other things, they differ in their habitat, appearance, social behaviour and interactions with humans.
Greg Klimes will speak to us in September about his love affair with bees. Greg is a retired professor from Vancouver Island University, who spent his entire career specializing in the conservation and protection of fish and wildlife. His love and appreciation of nature including honey bees, has led to a rewarding, lifelong career and hobby.
When Greg is not tending to his bees, he enjoys woodworking, canoeing and cycling around Nanoose Bay, which he calls home with his wife Debb.
