An immersive experience!

Those three words only begin to describe the wonderful explosion of art, colour, motion and music that our group of 12 thoroughly enjoyed at the “Beyond van Gogh and Monet” show in Nanaimo.

The first part of the show was a walk-through, museum style display, with lots of wonderful images and information about the artists and their lives. You can see some of this in the slide show below.

Then it was time to enter the 360° projection environment, where we were surrounded by, and immersed in, a collage of moving images and sound. Some of the images even spread across the floor, which could be a little disorienting, but fortunately there were plenty of stools available for those who preferred to sit in the middle of the room and look around from there. The full show lasted about one hour, starting with van Gogh, followed by the more recently added Monet portion.

Photography (no flash) was allowed, and some photos are included here in this slide show, but believe me, photos don’t do justice to this delightfully immersive experience of art and music! If you haven’t seen this show, you may want to see it in person. There is still time to get your Nanaimo tickets until August 29 (only $45 for seniors).

It was a lovely day in Nanaimo, and most of us stayed on to relax and discuss the show over an enjoyable lunch at nearby Minnoz Restaurant.
