Report on February Speakers: Lissa Alexander and Sarah Costen, “SOS: Strengthening Our Community Together”

Our two February 6 speakers were Lissa Alexander (below left), SOS Communications Manager, and Sarah Costen (below right), Volunteer Relations Coordinator.

Our speakers in February brought us information on an important and historical non-profit in our community, that is, the SOS (Society of Organized Services). It was started in 1968 by three local women who were concerned about children whose needs were not being met. Since then, SOS has grown into a multi-million dollar operation, providing 20 supportive programs for people of every age and stage in our community. From early childhood programs, parent support activities to youth fun and learning, on up to a number of programs aimed especially at the needs of seniors. Lissa Alexander, Communications Manager and Sarah Costen, Volunteer Relations Coordinator, shared information and videos of the work and value of the SOS.

My favorite program is called Tic Tac and invites parents to enjoy some time off and socialization with other parents while the little ones get entertained. Supported by their Thrift Shop and more than 200 volunteers, SOS promotes healthy living and social connection.
