Researchers at the Deep Bay Marine Field Station of Vancouver Island University (VIU) are committed to the promotion of ecologically sustainable development and marine conservation.
Thirty-one members toured the station on Thursday April 24th and learned about the issues surrounding green buildings, marine conservation, and sustainable seafood.
The station’s Facility Coordinator, Stephanie Richards, explained the history, building, and evolving plans for the facility as well as it’s unique relationship with VIU. Although completely self-funded (each new project backed by a fund-raising campaign), students from departments as diverse as culinary arts, biology, art and ship-building are all welcome to use the facility.
A delicious lunch was catered by culinary arts students from the on site professional kitchen. Members thanked Stephanie for her knowledgeable talk and tour and David Sanson for his excellent organization of the event.
