President’s Message – November 2017

As we look forward, the first thing on the November 3rd agenda is our Annual General Meeting.

This event is important to our club as it sets the stage for a new year. You will hear about the incoming management team that has stepped up to take us to even bigger heights in 2018.  The AGM is only a part of our next meeting but — it is significant, and I ask that everyone tries to come out to hear about what we’ve accomplished, what our budget for 2018 will look like and to welcome our new leadership team.

The club’s success depends on volunteers who are willing to make things happen.  Over the years we’ve been fortunate to have people who have contributed time, energy and ideas to deliver exceptional speakers and events, but we can always use more new blood to help us out.  Consider becoming part of one of our committees — not only is it fun, but you get to work with and make new friends and… you get to have first-hand input into our programming.

Last month an old wanna-be cowboy took us for a look behind the scenes at the Calgary Stampede and what television production is all about (good thing he didn’t arrive on horse back).  This coming month though, we’re in for another exceptional speaker when Graham Pike, Dean, International Education, from Vancouver Island University will tell us about the International Education Program, how students are recruited, the services offered and partnerships that have been formed world-wide.

This program has grown exponentially over the years and now rates as one of the premier ones in Canada bringing students from all over the world to our Island campus.  As well, you’ll get to hear more about our upcoming events and details on the Christmas Party.  So don’t forget to mark your calendars; our November meeting is an important one and, for those of you are getting ready to head south —- November is a great month to renew your membership for next year.   You won’t want to miss out on anything that’s coming in 2018 and I’ve been told – there are some great events just on the horizon.

See you at the meeting!
