President’s Message – May 2017

Don Dempson

The rumour of heat and sun flirting with us may just be that: conjecture!  For those of us transplants who came to Vancouver Island because the promise that Spring happens right after New Year’s; this year all we can say is —- Wrong!

OK, that’s out of my system, so let’s look on the bright side; flowers are blooming and the songbirds are magic to the ears.  As a club, we’ve enjoyed some great speakers lately and our ‘Out and Abouts’ have been diverse and simply fabulous ….and there’s so much more to come.

But seriously, I want to thank all members for the simple fact “You are using our e-News and our website” to learn more, sign-up for things and connect with people.  Reality is:  in the last 12 months, 83% of our membership have opened the monthly eNews and of those, 60% of you have clicked further.  Oh yes, and that incredible April Fool’s edition – opened by more members than any other individual one says something – humour, fun and ‘fake news’ really can make for enjoyable reading.

Even in those winter months when so many of us hibernate and go South, you are still reading the e-News and staying in touch.  Thanks to all of you for staying connected, with a ‘special thanks’ to Steph, Mary and Bea (and all contributors) for producing our information pieces.

Hot dogs may be on the menu at our May meeting, when we’ll have David Hahn, Manager from Nanaimo Costco, as our Speaker.  A staple supply centre for everything you could think of, this one store is a centerpiece in north Nanaimo and clearly a destination.  So, bring your questions and get ready to go shopping!

Also in May, we have our first Friday golf, more Men’s and Women’s lunches, our weekender trip to Tofino and another live theatre experience – but more about that at the meeting.

Our club’s success is directly proportional to the enthusiasm you bring to the meetings, events and special interest groups.  With almost 130 members we are energized, so let’s keep the momentum going.  See you May 5th.
