President’s Message – June 2017

Don Dempson

If Costco doesn’t have an Express Lane because they want you to experience the ‘full meal deal’, we at PROBUS don’t want to just send out some bullet points to you.  We ensure our newsletter depicts our ‘full meal deal’; to give you a sense of what’s coming up and how you can participate – every month.

David Hahn, manager of the Nanaimo Costco, said it all at our May meeting when he explained to 79 of us that shopping the warehouse was meant to be an experience; with wide and varied selections to accommodate everyone’s interests.  Well, your management team agrees with that idea, and together we believe we’ve created an exceptional list of Speakers, Out and Abouts and Special Interest options that may astound you, but most importantly – give everyone something to enjoy and get involved in.

Last month we enjoyed another live theatre event plus an incredible tour in Tofino where more than 25 of us traveled to Clayoquot Island and got to see an historic mansion, check out amazing gardens and have a picnic.  As well, many of you shared the camaraderie of friends at both the Ladies and Men’s lunches.  Oh yes, and did I mention that our book clubs, wine clubs, whisky club, beer club and our golf group shared time together.  Whew, I’m exhausted just telling you about all this.

June heralds ‘Summer’ – (remember my executive order about sun and heat – ‘fake news’).  Have faith though – it is on the way.  The month begins with our speaker Teri duTemple who is going to give us an insight into the Correctional situation in our area – so it’s important to be on your ‘best behavior!’  In addition, we have a wonderful excursion planned into our forest areas with Makenzie Leine, from Island Timberlands and of course more ladies’ and men’s lunches and golf.   As well, don’t forget: with Canada’s 150th birthday just around the corner, we’re going to celebrate at our July picnic, so stay tuned for more information about that.

See you soon.
