President’s Message – February 2019

President’s Message – February 2019

Early in January I was feeling the need to get away from the grey skies and rain but as the month progressed we luckily had more than our normal dose of sunshine so cabin fever didn’t set in for me. I always look forward to February because it means longer days and a month just long enough to get us to March.

Our new management team met in early January and one of the things we discussed was whether or not we should put notices from service clubs in our newsletter. After much discussion the consensus was that we shouldn’t put such notices in the newsletter. However, it was agreed that members should be encouraged to bring upcoming events from other organizations to our attention at our monthly meetings and I’ll make sure to leave time for any announcements.

We had a great speaker to kick off our new year – Gary Allan and his wolf dog Tundra were a big hit! While Gary gave us lots of interesting facts about wolves, Tundra who is 90% wolf was allowed to wander around the room under the guidance of Linda Matteson. We were all impressed with how calm and friendly Tundra was – definitely not what I expected!

Our February speakers are two lawyers, Wendy Clifford and Nathan Seaward from the law firm of Heath Law LLP in Nanaimo. Their presentation will focus on three topics: powers of attorney, representation agreements and medical assistance in dying. They spoke at the Nanoose Bay Probus Club and I have heard from several of their members that they were excellent speakers.

See you at the meeting!
