On December 6th, Fairwinds Clubhouse was transformed into a sea of black and gold. The theme was Shaken, Not Stirred, complete with a martini bar and a Casino (Royale), with the sights and sounds of a James Bond movie montage, courtesy of Agent Phil (001: License to Entertain).
The guests, all looking marvelous in their black and gold attire were greeted by Agent Nancy (002: License to Flash), and Agent Kim (003: License to Organize), who dealt them each their assignments and handed over their mission budgets.
As we all know, preparation is key to successfully navigating the casino floor, and preparing for the bidding later in the evening at the auction. It was a good thing that Agent Diet (007) was kept busy by Sharon (code name: M) as the cadre of agents and their guests were lured by Agent Pat (004: License to Drink Martinis) into the lounge to sample delicious libations, and by Agent Robert (005: License to Call) to score more cash on the prize wheel.
‘M’ kicked off the evening festivities, with a Bond Quiz allowing the sharpest table of agents to go first to the fabulous Christmas buffet featuring Traditional Roast Turkey and Herb Roast Beef provided by Chef Dan and his team at Fairwinds.
After dinner, it was off to the Goldfinger Casino, managed by Agent Norm (000), to score as much “cash” as possible to bid on the auction items, which included;
A beautiful hand-blown glass float by artist, Robert Held
A riveting book titled ‘Cold War Warrior’, the real-life story of Canadian MI-6 Agent Lawrence Fox by Robert Popple
A gorgeous painting by local artist Sheila Warren
A variety of superb wine and liquors
This was a great evening of socializing with fun and games, dancing and spirited competition. Goldfinger himself (Don, our President) who has been deftly directing our Club’s activities this year, eloquently summed up the evening by commending club members for the fabulous year that we’ve all enjoyed with a host of great speakers, and lots of fun social activities.
We are all looking forward to another great year in 2018.
