Northwest Bay PROBUS | Wine & Dine on Valentine’s Day

Venturing south on a nice sunny winters day, down picturesque country roads winding through the working farms and rolling hills in the heart of Cowichan Valley’s wine country, our group of twelve arrived at Unsworth Vineyards. We were greeted with the sights, sounds and fragrance of farm country (i.e. dairy farm next door).

First stop was the winery tasting room where were greeted by Ron Bogdonov, General Manager, he handed us each a glass of vino and then took us for a tour of their facility. Along the way, he regaled us on the history of the winery, narrated a video of vineyard life throughout the seasons, and explained the wine production process. We then went back to the tasting room to sample a selection of wines, which are all made from grapes sourced from Vancouver Island. If you are in the neighborhood check out the hardworking vineyard staff and their unique living accommodations.

After the tour our band of hungry travelers made our way across the parking lot to the Unsworth Restaurant, whimsically nestled in a restored early 1900s farm house. The dining room and outdoor patio overlook 12 acres of vineyards, an ancient apple and walnut orchard, and their own organic herb and vegetable garden. We relaxed, sipped our wine, and were treated to a fabulous four course dinner.

What a nice way to cap off a beautiful afternoon in the country!
