Well our March guest speaker, David Prud’homme, did not disappoint.
In response to the question, what lies up in the stars? The answer is a whole lot of nothing, with large amounts of space between planets – stars and galaxies. David did so many comparisons to the size of the earth to the sun, moon, planets that we finally got the point. We are a mere dot in the general scheme of things. The moon is 384,000 km from the earth, but the nearest star is 75,000 years away by the Voyager satellite. Even at the speed of light, it takes 8 minutes for light to reach the earth from the sun. And the answer to your next trivia question – How many stars are in the Milky Way?… 200 billion.
