Anna Toderas

On May 2, our speakers will be Dr Mark S. Williams and Anna Toderas, on the topic of “Canadian Prosperity and the Great Regression: Trump, Tariffs, and the World Economy”

The Crisis of the 1930s involved the Great Depression. The Crisis of the 2020s is causing a “Great Regression,” turning back the clock on free trade and dragging Canada into a new era of economic nationalism. What is at stake is the potential of a collapse in the Canadian-American partnership, and even the shattering of the rules-based international economic order itself.

Dr Mark S. Williams is a Professor of Political Studies and Global Studies at Vancouver Island University and an Instructor of Political Science at UBC. He is the editor of The Politics of the Asia-Pacific: Triumphs, Challenges, and Threats, published by the University of Toronto Press, as well as other books and articles on global politics.

Anna Toderas is an Honorary Research Associate Faculty member in Political Studies at Vancouver Island University. She has a Masters in Management from the Sauder School at UBC, and is currently in the Master of Management Studies in Global Business and Society at Yale University.

Mark and Anna’s forthcoming book is Canada and the Shattering of World Order.
