August 2016 – President’s Message

Well, it’s nice to be back on the Island and to be dried out after all the downpours in Calgary.  The Stampede was exciting as usual but it was good to come home in time for our annual summer Picnic, and the delicious weather on the Island.

July started off with a great presentation by Kat Albrecht, the Pet Detective  and finished with another great hike down to Dodd Narrows.  Of course you have to make special mention of the Picnic that once again proved our club can throw a party and make winners of all those who attend.  Whether it was the bean-bag toss or monitoring the inevitable fall of golf balls through the wire and stick maze, there were lots of laughs and cheers as teams vied for the enviable prizes.  But then …. everyone was a winner and whether you had the 4 of Hearts, 10 of Diamonds or no playing card at all — everyone went home with a prize.

Hats off to Robert Grose, Bernie Podlubny and the whole team who made it all happen – OUTSTANDING!.

August brings the dog days of summer, visitors and more exciting things for our members.  It begins with our speaker Dr. Richard Beamish who is going to tell us about the Pacific Biological station and then we attack the golf course again, this time at Arrowsmith, venture off to Venturi Shultz Balsamic Vinegar tour and culminate with the ever- popular Appetizer Extravaganza.

It’s summer and the living is easy – how fortunate we are.  Enjoy
